Foggy Days

It’s a foggy morning this morning, and I’m out in the open country driving. I’m at work doing my regular job but with the added extra of it being foggy!

This morning it’s a regional run for me, Hamilton to Huntly along the banks of the Waikato river

Not quite the route, but still the Waikato river.

I know where I’m meant to be going, and I know how to get there, but this morning I can hardly see more than a hundred yards ahead!

Just like writing.

Think about it, last week I’d drawn up plans for the year, goals had been set. Targets ‘locked in’ so I could monitor where I’m at and if I’m likely to achieve the goal, and everything looks good.

Then comes the Fog!

Suddenly we know where we want to go, but “How the heck are we gonna get there?” Flummoxed we either slow down (a good idea when driving) or we just stop and stay there, like a rabbit caught in a car headlights we’re stuck!

Ever felt like that? I know I have. But I do know where I’m going, and to some degree, I know how I’m going to get there, not just the route, but something else along the way.

Something we often forget when driving, or rather someone. The other people using the road, and they aren’t always being so careful are they?

Some don’t know the road, they wait at junctions when they should be getting a move on, unsure what to do in unfamiliar territory, maybe having missed a sign that tells them they have ‘right of way’. Or not stopping when they should! Blindly moving out into traffic with little or no thought for other users, ever see them?

From the top it looks clear, ‘in the trenches’ it’s a different story.

I’ve decided the best way forward is to do what I always do, take my time, be careful and help others on the way.

Some won’t even notice what I do, but most will, and they do the same, that way we all make our destination, and we helpeach other on the way.

See ya next week.
