Summer’s on it’s way

Okay, I know it’s almost over for you folks. But for us in the Southern Hemisphere it’s just around the corner as we’ve just gone into Spring. That’s when we go from reasonably cold but sunny weather to rain, rain and more rain. At least it’s good for the farmers!Actually, this weekend we had some really nice weather, so I got out and started straightening the back yard to make it livable, that was a bit of a mistake!I didn’t do a lot, but the body said it was too much, so today I’ve been taking things easy and just sitting relaxing. I didn’t even start this newsletter until it started going dark outside. It’s been great to just stop and recharge a little bit, even if it’s only for a day!Speaking of which, Only one week and I’ve got a week’s leave coming up, and I’m looking forward to it!My beloved and our daughter are heading up to Auckland for a few days and that means I get to look after Smudge, or is it Smudge gets to look after me? Anyway, rather than leave her in the house on her own all day I’m taking a week off and we’ll probably have an absolute ball! Here in NZ we get four weeks paid leave per year, but if you have to work on a public holiday (we have eleven of those in a year) and it’s your rostered day on then you get a day in lieu and they have to pay time and a half for the hours worked. Altogether I’ve got just under six weeks owing, but I’ll use some of that over Christmas.
When do you get time to write?
One question that those of us who have full time jobs get is, “when do you get time to write?”I mean I’m working just under fifty hours a week, surely that doesn’t leave a lot of time for writing, does it?Probably not, but you’ll find time for what’s important, and to me, telling the stories are important!I’ve got an old tablet that I load the manuscript onto before I head off at the start of the week. The tablet takes forever to load at the start, but as soon as things are loaded it’s fairly easy to use. I use Google docs for the first draft, which is rough as anything, but hey, I’m the only one going to see that draft! Most days I get an hour for lunch, so I can pull the tablet out and type away. I might get a couple of hundred words done that way, not great speed, but hey’ it’s what I can do with what I have!

There’ll be more the next time I post, but for now, I’ll sign off and say, “see ya later”
