I’m an author, so naturally, the main thing I’m about is writing books, and here’s where you can find them in all their glory.
I love the thriller type novel, but they’re not the only kind that I write> I’ve also written and will write more Historical Fiction stories.
I’m fascinated with my Family history and when doing research I found a few stories back in the distant past that we SHOULD be telling and re-telling as the stories are so wild they just have to be true, even though they seem so far out there that they just can’t be!
Tracing the family history back I found links to the Saxon-Viking times, Richard the Lionheart, Elizabeth 1st, Ivan the Terrible, The 1st Duke of Marlborough (great great great grandfather of Winston Churchill a few more times removed) and George Washington to name a few.

This was my first foray into historical fiction, and it’s set right at the beginning of our family’s coming into being, the fall of Roman Britain, and the coming of the Saxons.

Historians aren’t really sure what happened after the fall of the Roman Empire in Britain, there are only a few documents that survive from the period, and most of what’s said to have happened was written at least a hundred years after the events.
Bede, one of the scholars we rely on for information lived at least a hundred and fifty years after the events, but there are a few things we DO know that happened, and put them in the right order and you get a fascinating tale.
Britain was colonised by Rome for the wealth she had in metals, but there were always problems with a colony so far from the centre of the Empire. Neglect was pretty common, and by the year 400 AD the soldiers in Britain were fed up with being unpaid for years, constant fighting to protect the border and so much more, so they elected a leader and marched on Rome.
Then the Barbarians came. The rest you’ll need to read the book to find out what happened when Rome told Britain to get stuffed (when she asked for help) and we were on our own!
Help did come, but it wasn’t Roman Soldiers as such, but half-Romanised Warriors from the fringes of the Empire, from a place that was later to be called Lower Saxony in Germany, the Saxons were here, and they were here to stay.
The story follows the life of one of these warriors, now retired from the Roman Army and still living on the land he was given for his years of service when raiders come, and there’s no one left to defend the people.
